Barnes and Noble @ 1:30. There were several students that volunteered to give rides to those that need one.

Research Instructions:
Close your eyes and imagine you are stepping into a room. This room contains information, ideas, secrets, and knowledge. If there is anything that you would need or want it is in this room. And it is all for you to enjoy. In this room, you have the power of knowing something that no one else does. Sounds good, right? As you open your eyes you see Barnes and Noble. (don-dun-duuuun) This is the room that you were imagining. You are drawn to a section of the bookstore i.e.. Fiction, Romance, Children's Novels, Magazines, Self Help... (please spread out no more than 2 people per section). Choose several resources from your section and skim through the pages, read the summary, inside of the cover, and bits and pieces of the book. What feeling do you get when you are in this section of the bookstore? Did you discover anything new? Is there an apparent theme? What emotions are present? What information are you absorbing?

The Drawing:
The inspiration for the drawing comes from the pages within the books around you. Your drawing will include: perspective, drawing from observation, reality and fantasy and the layering of information(i.e. transparency, overlapping, layers). Remember what you have learned so far about observation, depth/perspective, materials, line and shape, and composition. Value can be used but only in the form of a line.

Evaluation:
The drawing should have a sense of adventure, exploration and surprise. The drawing will contain "real life" and "imaginary" components. And finally, just like a book or sections of books your drawing should contain a layering of information.

Keep busy. The drawing will take you the entire time on Tuesday and will be due Thursday at the beginning of class. Please do not come to me at B&N looking for more to do. If it takes more than one drawing, then do that. If your drawing needs to take another shape, then do that. If you need more time to finish your drawing, then do that.

Materials:
18"x24" Drawing Paper (bring a few pieces)
Pen
Carbon Pencil
Black Conté Crayon
Eraser
Happy Travels,
k.

p.s. you have the instructions. when you get to B&N you can start without me.

Thursday February 16

Drawing is a verb - Richard Serra

Materials:
Newsprint
Drawing Paper
Charcoal
Carbon Pencil
Pen
Design Kneaded Rubber Eraser
Mars Plastic Eraser

See you soon!!!!
k.

Depth and Atmosphere

SIZE OF OBJECTS-smaller objects seem farther away (distortions can occur if objects are the same size or too close to the viewer).
OVERLAPPING OR SUPERIMPOSING-by partially covering one object with another it gives an appearance of depth (distortions also occur if viewer is too close).
TEXTURE-density increases as an object gets further away.
SPACING-objects clustered closer together seem farther away.
